Beat Box (Ain’t No Party Like a Carnival Party): This Friday, Black Box…
While over at W[r]ite Noise we’re very much of the opinion that spring has sprung and will point out all the crocuses and snowdrops in Ormeau Park to anyone who dares defy our edict, there is no denying that there is still something of a winter chill in the air and a lingering January blues hangover that everyone would like to be rid of. So what to do?

Samba!! Check out the Beat-Box night tomorrow, Friday 19th Feb, in the Black Box Belfast. They assure me that they’ll ‘be doing the place up all fancy like’ (balloons? face painting? glitter?) and there’s some great entertainment on offer as well. The night will be produced in association with newly opened Liberation Laboratory (LibLab) Recording Studio so it seems sure to be on the cutting edge of the eternally burgeoning Belfast party scene and is thus a worthy destination to spend your Friday night.
The night will include performances by:
The Wee Weirdies
Scorpion Jack
An experimental drum excursion by Mike Sampson and Rohan Young
BeatnDrum Samba band and Beatndance
To finish the evening off, there’s also some serious dancing action on the cards courtesy of Beat DJ’s Mathias, Damo and Gavonio. There will also be the usual carnival Beat-style madness happening through the night off stage, so keep your eyes open you never know who you’ll bump into… Consider yourselves warned! Things kick off at 8pm down at Black Box on Hill Street (just make sure you keep an eye on your drink – not in case someone spikes it, in case a rude barman knocks it over mere seconds after you’ve bought it and refuses to replace it. Read all about our traumatic experience here…) and the beat keeps coming at you til about 1:30am, so grab your dancing shoes and a few red bulls and you’re good to go!
